14+ Dance Scholarship Rules and Conditions
1. The 14+ Dance Scholarship is held biennially and the award, if made, is provided for further Classical Ballet training. Upon agreement with the Royal Academy of Dance New Zealand Office, a maximum of 10% of the award may be used for costs directly related to training.
2. Applicants are eligible to enter Scholarship provided they are under 17 years of age on the closing date for applications.
3. Applicants must be current members of the Royal Academy of Dance.
4. Applicants must have passed the RAD Advanced 1 Examination with Distinction and must not have taken the Advanced 2 examination at the time of participating in the 14+ Dance Scholarship.
5. Applicants must be resident and have received training in New Zealand for a minimum of one year prior to the closing date of the Scholarship and hold Full Membership of the Royal Academy of Dance.
6. Students may re-apply for the Scholarship as many times as they wish providing the entry requirements are met.
7. Candidates will be allocated 15 minutes rehearsal time.
8. The Scholarship will consist of an 'open' class of one and a quarter (1¼) hours at Advanced 1 level. Students will have a half (½) hour warm-up barre with music prior to the start of the class. The class will commence with centre practice, and will include pointe work for the girls. This will be followed by the Scholarship Studies (four set enchaînements) performed by each student in turn. The class will be conducted by a Guest Teacher appointed by the Academy. An invited audience will be present for the class and Studies only. The Scholarship will be judged by two judges appointed by the Academy.
9. The Royal Academy of Dance will provide the pianist for the Class and Studies. Students are required to wear the Academy's Vocational Graded Examination uniform for the class, and female candidates may also wear a black, navy blue or grey matching tutu for the Studies.
10. The Scholarship will normally be awarded to a single candidate. The award has a value of up to $NZ7,000. The Academy reserves the right to withhold the Scholarship if the required standard is not met.
11. The Scholarship winner must commence further study within twelve (12) months of the date of the award. This time limit can only be extended at the Academy's discretion, and any funds not used within five (5) years of the date of the award will be forfeited.
12. Students who do not follow these Rules and Conditions of Entry may be disqualified.
13. The Academy reserves the right to alter the Scholarship Rules and Conditions of Entry at any time without prior notice.
