Events & Awards

The Solo Seal Award is held annually in Wellington. Solo Seal was held on 3 September 2017.   

The 14+ Dance Scholarship is held biennially. The 14+ Dance Scholarship was held on 4 September 2016.  Also awarded on Scholarship Day are the Elvira Macrae Award and the Alexander Grant Training Award.

The 2018 Genée International Ballet Competition will be held in Hong Kong. The 2017 Genée International Ballet Competition was held in Lisbon, Portugal and NZ hosted the 2012 GIBC.

The Creina Gee Memorial Award provides financial assistance for dance teachers or trainee dance teachers to undertake courses of study which meet Royal Academy of Dance guidelines. Closing date for applications is 30 September each year.

The NZ International Summer School is held once every four years in Wellington. It was held in January 2016, and the next event will be in January 2020.


The Academy grants a variety of awards in recognition to lifelong service to the artform in general and the RAD in particular.

ARAD
Full Members of the Academy who are 18 years old or more and have passed Advanced 2 can apply for an ARAD.  The Board of Trustees will not consider applications from those who have not fully met the criteria.

FI Chor.
The Fellow of the Institute of Choreology (FI Chor.) is given by the RAD in recognition of outstanding and exceptional serviced rendered over a substantial period of time to the Benesh Institute and Benesh Movement Notation.

FRAD
The Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Dance is awarded to members of the Academy for outstanding and exceptional service rendered over a substantial period of time to the Academy and to the art of ballet.

President's Award
The President's Award is given to an individual who has for many years dedicated themselves over and above the call of duty to the Royal Academy of Dance.
